Top Blogging Mistakes
Blogging Mistakes vary in nature, but there are some that can irrepably damage your blog's reputation and permanently lose visitors. When operating your blog make sure to avoid these blogging do nots and do your best to eliminate the flaws within your blog.
The surest mistake to kill your blog is simply to stop blogging. Stops happens all too often as bloggers start off strong, but lose interest as time wears on. This is why it is imperative to blog about a topic you are very interested in. When you completely abandon a blog for an extenuated period of time, you not only lose the trust of your current readers - both dedicated and occassional - but you also lose valuable search engine ranks as your blog falls out of the currently updated while other blogs continue to be updated.
Another way to damage your blog is to plaster so many ads your site becomes more about advertising than actual content. Ads should integrate into the scheme or your blog, not detract from it. When ads become so obtrusive as to hide the content, you will lose viewers. Ads will always have their place on free websites, but ads should never be the dominating presence on your blog.
Continually weak content can also hamper a productive blog. Instead of completely disappearing, some bloggers result to uninformative entries in order to maintain their blog. This is beneficial as far as keeping search engine and page rank, but does little to appease blog readers who frequented because of once stellar content. Weak content can include constant promotions or advertisements, very short blog entries, or entries that have little utility to readers.
A very common mistake bloggers make is not customizing the permalink structure to include the titles on WordPress posts. Enabling the custom structure on the permalink settings to "/%postname%/" dramatically helps your blog entries' ability to be found in search engine results. For example, your blog post URL under the custom structure will show as http://www.moneyproblog.com/blogging-mistakes rather than the default URL of http://www.moneyproblog.com/?p=123.
An additional flaw in blogs is writing unsearchable blog titles. Unsearchable blog titles amount to titles that have a slim possibility of being indexed in search for their blog content. For example, if you write a blog entry about baseball cards but only write "A Possible Hidden Treasure" in the title line, your blog entry is most likely going to get lost in the shuffle of search engine abyss. Although straight forward titles can lose creative luster, it's best to use titles that encompass your blog's topic.
Remember, part of creating a good blog is eliminating the characteristics which create a bad blog. Beyond these serious and common mistakes in blogs, improve your blog by eliminating flaws you find as you read other blogs.
